Ever wondered how Garhwal and Kumaon were back in the 1890s? If you are a curious soul like me then let’s go on a time travel journey to explore how these two Himalayan beauties looked like in the black and white era. Check out these surreal photographs of Kumaon and Garhwal that were taken by Dr. Kurt on an arduous trail to Milam-Malari trek which includes places like Milam, Joshimath, Badrinath and Jageshwar. Dr. Kurt Boeck made a number of journeys into the Himalayas in the 1890s and produced a detailed report of his travel experience titled “Indian glacier trips” in 1900. During his journey, he explored some of the lesser known places of Garhwal, Kumaon Himalayas, Darjeeling, Sikkim and Nepal.
Congratulation saw it toady, myself along with my colleges are trying to understand te causes of galcier recession in the Utrakhand Himalaya. Would be grateful, if you can send me the link of the book by Dr. Kurt Boeck titled “Indian glacier trips” in 1900.
